A new Amex Offer gives you a $200 statement credit when you spend $1,000 or more on Lufthansa Group flights booked through Amex Travel. The offer landed on cardholder accounts this week, and you have until October 31, 2026 to book.
It covers five airlines in the group, not just Lufthansa itself. One condition trips people up more than any other: the ticket has to be bought online at AmexTravel.com or in the Amex Travel app. Book straight with the airline and you get nothing back.

Which airlines count
Lufthansa Group is bigger than most travelers realize, so the list of qualifying carriers is wider than the offer title suggests.
- Lufthansa: the main German carrier, with hubs in Frankfurt and Munich.
- Swiss International Air Lines: flights through Zurich and Geneva.
- Austrian Airlines: the Vienna hub, useful for central and eastern Europe.
- Brussels Airlines: Belgium, plus a solid west African network.
- Discover Airlines: the group’s leisure carrier out of Frankfurt and Munich.
The flight has to be marketed by one of those five airlines. A codeshare sold under a partner code will not count, even when the metal belongs to the group.
Check your account before you plan around it
If you hold several American Express cards, check each one separately. The offer often appears on some cards in a household and not others. The credit is limited to one per eligible Card account, so you cannot stack two cards on a single $1,000 booking.
Is $1,000 through Amex Travel a good deal?
A $200 credit on $1,000 works out to 20% off, which is a strong discount on a transatlantic ticket. Lufthansa Group economy fares from the United States to Europe often land between $700 and $1,100 in the fall, so a single round trip can clear the threshold on its own. Two people traveling together will clear it easily, though only one card gets the credit.
Compare the Amex Travel price against the airline’s own site before you commit. Portal fares usually match, but not always, and a fare that runs $80 higher in the portal eats into the value of the credit. Tickets bought through the portal still earn airline miles and count toward status, since you are buying a normal published fare.
Business class is where this gets interesting. A $3,000 business class fare to Frankfurt still returns only $200, so the percentage drops. - Wait for the credit: it posts within 90 days of the October 31 deadline, not right after you book.

This is one of the better Amex Offers of the season for anyone with a European trip already in mind. Twenty percent back on a transatlantic economy ticket is real money, and the October 31 deadline leaves room to plan a fall or early winter trip.
Two things decide whether it works for you: whether the offer sits on one of your cards, and whether you are comfortable booking through the Amex Travel portal instead of the airline. If both are fine, add it now and check fares. If the portal price is higher than the airline’s, do the math before assuming the credit puts you ahead. Can I book directly with Lufthansa instead?
