Marriott Bonvoy lifetime elite status
Marriott Bonvoy also lets members earn lifetime elite status at the Silver, Gold and Platinum levels if they meet these requirements:
- Lifetime Silver Elite: 250 qualifying nights and 5 years as Silver Elite or higher
- Lifetime Gold Elite: 400 qualifying nights and 7 years as Gold Elite or higher
- Lifetime Platinum Elite: 600 qualifying nights and 10 years as Platinum Elite or higher
The interesting part about lifetime status is that, with the right mix of credit cards, you may be able to reach it without spending hundreds of nights at Marriott properties.
That's because several credit cards give you automatic elite status, and many add elite night credits every year just for being a cardholder (more on that below).
How to earn Marriott Bonvoy elite status
There are several ways to earn Marriott Bonvoy elite status, and some are much easier than others.
By staying at Marriott properties
The first way to earn elite status with Marriott is to stay the number of nights required for each tier.
For example, to earn Silver Elite status, you need at least 10 nights at Marriott properties in a calendar year. To reach Gold Elite, the next tier, you need at least 25 nights in a year, which is a tall order for most travelers.
Earning status through paid stays is mostly the territory of business travelers, who can rack up the nights needed for Gold or Platinum and beyond.
With Marriott Bonvoy cobranded credit cards
If you want an easier path to Bonvoy elite status, this is the section to read. With one of the following Marriott Bonvoy cobranded credit cards, you get complimentary elite status without spending a single night at one of the company's hotels (although status isn't worth much if you never use it).
On top of complimentary status, each of the five cards below also gives you 15 to 25 elite night credits every year, plus a points welcome offer that gives your account a boost toward the next tier and a free night.
- Marriott Bonvoy Bold® Credit Card: automatic Silver Elite status and 15 elite night credits
- Marriott Bonvoy Boundless® Credit Card: automatic Silver Elite status and 15 elite night credits
- Marriott Bonvoy Bevy® American Express® Card: complimentary Gold Elite status and 15 elite night credits
- Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant® American Express® Card: complimentary Platinum Elite status and 25 elite night credits
- Marriott Bonvoy Business® American Express® Card: complimentary Gold Elite status and 15 elite night credits
With other credit cards
Besides the Marriott Bonvoy cobranded cards above, you can also get complimentary Gold Elite status with these American Express cards:
Through partner programs
Another way to get Marriott Bonvoy elite status is to check whether you already qualify through a partnership with another loyalty program.
For example, if you hold United Premier Gold status or higher with United MileagePlus, you can register for RewardsPlus and receive complimentary Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status.
The partnership with Air Canada Aeroplan works the other way: Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Elite members and above can get Aeroplan 25K status.
Bottom line
Marriott Bonvoy elite status is a great way to earn more points and enjoy extra perks every time you stay at a Marriott property.
From room upgrades to breakfast and late checkout, the benefits of Marriott Bonvoy elite status can make your next trip better.
Getting status can also be easy if you hold an eligible credit card. If you like staying at Marriott properties, it's worth considering one.
