Overview

Wyndham Rewards covers more than 60,000 hotels, resorts, and vacation rentals, which makes it the largest footprint of any hotel loyalty program. It earns 10 points per dollar, prices free nights in flat tiers, and takes transfers from two U.S. bank programs. It also has the shortest fuse of any major program: points die four years after they post, no matter what you do.

This guide covers earning, the award tiers that change on September 15, 2026, elite status, and the two expiration rules that catch people out. For the cards that feed the program, see our roundup of the best credit cards.

Wyndham Rewards overview

The portfolio runs from economy brands such as Super 8, Days Inn, and Travelodge up to Wyndham Grand and the Registry Collection, plus vacation rentals. That range is the program’s real advantage: in small towns and along highways where Marriott and Hilton have nothing, Wyndham often has three options.

How to earn Wyndham Rewards points

Stay at Wyndham properties

You earn 10 points per dollar on qualifying room rates, or a flat 1,000 points per qualifying stay, whichever is greater. That floor matters more than the rate at the budget end of the portfolio. A $60 night at a Super 8 earns 600 points on the rate, so the 1,000-point minimum takes over and effectively pays you 16.7 points per dollar.

Transfer credit card points

Two U.S. bank currencies move into Wyndham Rewards, both at 1:1. That ratio is generous by hotel standards, where 1:1 into a program with 15,000-point award nights beats most alternatives.

Earn with a co-branded card

Barclays issues three Wyndham cards: the Wyndham Rewards Earner Card, the Earner Plus Card, and the Earner Business Card. Each grants automatic elite status and an annual points bonus, which suits people who stay with Wyndham a few times a year rather than constantly.

Buy Wyndham Rewards points

Wyndham sells points at 1.3 cents each, and it runs bonus promotions several times a year that push the effective price to around 0.68 cents. At that level, buying points to cover a 15,000-point night costs about $102, which beats the cash rate at plenty of mid-tier properties. Check our current Wyndham points sale before you buy.

How to use Wyndham Rewards points

Wyndham runs two award types. Free nights cost points only, and discounted nights combine a smaller number of points with cash. Free nights currently price at 7,500, 15,000, or 30,000 points per bedroom per night.

TierUntil September 14, 2026From September 15, 2026

Mid15,000 points15,000 points
Upper30,000 points30,000 points

If a property you want sits at 30,000 points today and looks like a candidate for the new top tier, book it before September 15. Conversely, if you are eyeing a budget property, waiting could drop your cost from 7,500 to 5,000 points.

Wyndham Rewards elite status

Status runs on qualifying nights within a calendar year, and the thresholds are low compared with the big chains. Everyone starts at Blue.

  • Gold: 5 qualifying nights.
  • Platinum: 15 qualifying nights.
  • Diamond: 40 qualifying nights.
  • Shortcut: The Barclays co-branded cards grant status without any nights.

Do Wyndham Rewards points expire?

Yes, and two separate rules apply at once. This is the single most important thing to understand about the program.

  • The four-year rule: Points expire four years after the date they post to your account. Nothing extends that clock.
  • The 18-month rule: Your whole balance is forfeited if the account sees no activity for 18 consecutive months.

Earning, using, or transferring points resets the 18-month inactivity clock. However, it does nothing for the four-year rule. A widely shared trick of booking an award and then cancelling it appears to push the expiration date out in your account, but the points still disappear on their fourth birthday. Plan to spend points within four years of earning them.

Is Wyndham Rewards worth it?

For road trips, small-town travel, and family stays in vacation rentals, few programs compete. Flat award pricing means a 15,000-point night costs the same in peak summer as it does in February, which is increasingly rare now that most chains price awards dynamically.

  • Hard expiration: Four years is short, and no activity extends it.
  • Modest ceiling: The portfolio skews economy, so the top of the award chart rarely delivers luxury.
  • Only two transfer partners: Amex and Chase points cannot reach the program.

Bottom line

Wyndham Rewards rewards a specific traveler: someone who drives, stays one night at a time, and values a predictable award price over an aspirational one. The 1,000-point stay minimum and the flat tiers do the heavy lifting.

Watch the September 15, 2026 chart change, and treat the four-year expiration as a hard deadline rather than a technicality. For more on hotel programs and the cards that feed them, see our guide to the best hotel credit cards and subscribe to our newsletter.

Frequently Asked Questions about Wyndham Rewards

How many points is a free night at Wyndham?

Free nights currently cost 7,500, 15,000, or 30,000 points per bedroom per night. From September 15, 2026, the chart moves to four tiers at 5,000, 15,000, 30,000, and 45,000 points. Wyndham also sells discounted nights that start at 750 points plus cash.

Do Wyndham Rewards points expire?

Yes, under two rules. Points expire four years after they post, and nothing extends that. Separately, your entire balance is forfeited after 18 consecutive months of account inactivity. Earning or using points resets the 18-month clock but not the four-year one.

Which credit card points transfer to Wyndham Rewards?

Capital One Miles and Citi ThankYou Rewards both transfer at 1:1. Capital One transfers usually land the same day and Citi transfers are instant. American Express Membership Rewards and Chase Ultimate Rewards do not transfer to Wyndham.

How do you earn Wyndham Rewards points fastest?

Use the 1,000-point minimum per qualifying stay. Because it applies per stay rather than per night, several cheap one-night stays earn far more than the 10 points per dollar rate would suggest. A $60 night effectively pays about 16.7 points per dollar.

How do you get Wyndham Rewards elite status?

Gold arrives at 5 qualifying nights in a calendar year, Platinum at 15, and Diamond at 40. Those are low thresholds by industry standards. The three Barclays co-branded cards also grant status outright, with no nights required.

How many hotels does Wyndham Rewards cover?

More than 60,000 hotels, resorts, and vacation rentals worldwide, the largest footprint of any hotel loyalty program. Brands run from Super 8, Days Inn, and Travelodge at the economy end up to Wyndham Grand and the Registry Collection.
