Air Canada's Signature Suite in Toronto Closes September 30, 2026: What U.S. Travelers Need to Know

Air Canada is temporarily closing its Signature Suite at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) on September 30, as it starts the next phase of an expansion. The airline expects a partial reopening in December, with the enlarged space finished in early 2027.
For U.S. travelers, this is a lounge you lose for a few months on exactly one kind of trip. Here's who it affects, what replaces it, and what else you can get into at Pearson in the meantime.
Why This Matters if You're Connecting Through Toronto
Toronto Pearson is one of the main connecting points for Americans heading to Europe, Asia and South America on Air Canada. The Signature Suite sits in the international departures area, next to gate E77, on the upper level beside the Plaza Premium Lounge.
That location is the whole story for U.S. flyers: the suite has never served flights heading back to the United States. If you're flying Toronto to a U.S. city, you were never eligible for it, and this closure changes nothing about your trip. The people affected are those connecting through Toronto onto a long-haul Air Canada flight in business class.
Who Could Actually Get In
Access to the Signature Suite has always been narrow. It covers passengers in paid business class on long-haul international Air Canada flights in booking classes J, C, D, Z or P, passengers on Business Class (Flexible) or First Class (Flexible) Aeroplan rewards, Emirates First Class passengers departing Toronto, and holders of the invitation-only American Express Air Canada Card.
The Vancouver (YVR) Signature Suite is not affected and continues to operate normally.
What Replaces It During the Closure
Air Canada is putting three things in place while the suite is shut:
- Signature Suite-eligible passengers are directed to the International Maple Leaf Lounge, with priority access through a dedicated queue.
- A temporary grab-and-go stand near gate E85, with food and drinks to take away.
- Concierge staff and airport signage to point travelers toward the temporary arrangements.

A Guest Pass for the Expanded Suite
Eligible passengers traveling during the closure get advance notice of the arrangements, plus a pass for a future visit to the expanded Toronto Signature Suite.
The pass is issued once the enlarged suite opens in early 2027 and stays valid through December 31, 2028. It works on any Air Canada flight to an international destination, in any class of service, and can be used by the passenger or by a guest.
That last detail is worth noting: the pass is not tied to flying business class again. A future economy ticket on an international Air Canada route is enough to use it.
How U.S. Travelers Can Still Get Into a Lounge at YYZ
You don't need a Signature Class ticket to sit down somewhere at Pearson. Four paths are realistic for an American traveler:
- Chase Sapphire Reserve® — cardholders and authorized users can access select Maple Leaf Lounge locations with a same-day boarding pass for an Air Canada or Star Alliance flight. Newark, Paris and Montréal are excluded; Toronto is not.
- Star Alliance Gold status — including United MileagePlus Premier Gold and above. It works on a same-day Star Alliance flight in any class, and brings one guest at no charge.
- Aeroplan 50K, 75K or Super Elite — complimentary access on Air Canada or Star Alliance partner flights, regardless of class.
- Priority Pass — the membership bundled with cards like The Platinum Card® from American Express doesn't open the Maple Leaf Lounge, but it does open Plaza Premium lounges, including the one sitting right next to the Signature Suite.

The closure is temporary and narrow in scope. It hits U.S. travelers only on long-haul Air Canada business class itineraries connecting through Toronto, and those passengers keep priority access to the International Maple Leaf Lounge plus an invitation to come back once the bigger suite opens.
If you were counting on the Signature Suite for a fall trip through Pearson, the practical answer is the International Maple Leaf Lounge — and if you hold a Chase Sapphire Reserve or Star Alliance Gold status, that door was already open to you anyway.
