Air France Brings New La Première Cabin to San Francisco
Loading article…
Air France now operates its new La Première cabin between Paris-Charles de Gaulle and San Francisco. The service started on August 14, 2026 on flights AF084 and AF083, and the cabin now operates daily on select Boeing 777-300ERs, which makes SFO the fourth American gateway to receive the airline’s newest first class product after New York-JFK, Los Angeles, and Miami.
In this article, we cover the new schedule, what the cabin includes, the ground service on both ends, and the part that matters most to points travelers: how you actually get a seat. Air France keeps La Première award space behind an elite wall, so a big transferable points balance alone will not be enough. The New San Francisco Schedule
Air France runs one daily flight in each direction with the new cabin: AF084 westbound and AF083 eastbound, both effective August 14, 2026. The timing works well from the West Coast: the eastbound flight leaves San Francisco in mid-afternoon and lands in Paris the next morning, which leaves the whole day for a connection into Europe or Africa.
| Flight | Route | Departure | Arrival |
|---|---|---|---|
| AF084 | Paris-CDG to San Francisco | 10:20 a.m. | 12:50 p.m. same day |
| AF083 | San Francisco to Paris-CDG | 3:05 p.m. | 10:55 a.m. next day |
During the summer season, Air France operates up to two daily flights to San Francisco. However, the second rotation uses an Airbus A350-900, and that aircraft does not carry La Première. Therefore, check the equipment before you book: only the 777-300ER rotation carries La Première.
Inside the New La Première Cabin
Air France fits only four suites per aircraft, and each one stretches across five windows. The layout splits into two pieces: a reclining armchair and a facing chaise longue that converts into a bed. In practice, that means you can eat, work, and sleep without folding the same surface into three different shapes.
- A separate bed, not a flat seat: The chaise longue extends into a bed measuring two meters, or roughly 6 feet 7 inches.
- Floor-to-ceiling privacy: A thick mesh curtain closes each suite from the aisle, so the space stays private for the whole flight.
- Two 32-inch 4K screens: Each passenger gets a pair of anti-glare monitors and more than 1,500 hours of entertainment, viewable from the seat, the chaise, or the bed.
- Bring your own headphones: Air France provides noise-canceling headsets, and you can also pair your own headphones or earbuds over Bluetooth.
- Power everywhere: The suite has 110V and 220V outlets, USB-A and USB-C ports, wireless charging pads, and a stand for a phone or tablet.
- Wireless tablet control: A handheld touchscreen adjusts the seat, the chaise, the bed, the lighting, and the window shades.
At night, the chaise longue folds out into a bed with a full mattress pad and duvet, and the mesh curtain closes the suite off from the aisle.
The catering follows the same split. On departures from the United States, Daniel Boulud signs the main menu and Laurent Le Daniel, a Meilleur Ouvrier de France, handles the desserts. Out of Paris, Anne-Sophie Pic writes the menu and Claire Heitzler takes the pastry.
The Ground Service at SFO and CDG
Much of what you pay for in this cabin happens before boarding. At San Francisco International, Air France staff meet La Première passengers at a dedicated check-in area, take the bags immediately, and walk them through security. After that, guests use a private section inside the Air France lounge with its own food service and direct access to the lounge bar. Staff then escort each passenger to the aircraft at boarding time.
Paris goes further. La Première passengers at Charles de Gaulle follow a fully private path from curb to seat, starting with a porter who takes the luggage. Next comes a private vestibule for departure formalities, which also handles arriving passengers who want to shower, eat, or collect their bags. The dedicated La Première lounge adds a full restaurant, rest areas, a spa, and workspaces. Finally, staff drive guests to the aircraft in a Porsche Cayenne hybrid running in electric mode.
How to Book La Première With Points
Here is the rule that decides everything: Flying Blue releases La Première award seats only to its Platinum and Ultimate members. In other words, you cannot transfer a pile of points into Flying Blue, search for first class, and expect to see space. Elite status comes first, and the award inventory usually amounts to a single seat per flight.
Pricing moves with demand. Award rates on transatlantic La Première flights generally start near 200,000 to 250,000 miles one way plus taxes and fees, and long itineraries with connections climb well past that. Consequently, treat the published floor as a best case rather than an average.
- No partner awards: Air France does not release La Première space to partner programs, so Delta SkyMiles, Virgin Atlantic, and other SkyTeam members cannot book it.
- Status gate: Flying Blue Silver and Gold members do not see first class award space at all.
- One seat per flight: Availability is thin, so plan around the calendar opening roughly a year out.
What I Experienced in the Previous Cabin
I flew Air France La Première from Nice to Paris to Washington, D.C. in the previous generation of the cabin. It took me fifteen years to check that box, going back to the A380 days. Two things had to line up in the same year: Flying Blue Platinum status first, then enough Miles to pay for the award once a seat finally opened.
My main takeaway: the difference happens on the ground. A private car to the aircraft, the La Première lounge, a Sisley treatment, a full meal served at the table before boarding. None of that changes with the new cabin. In my view, that ground service is the real reason to chase this cabin over a very good business class seat.

Cards That Feed Your Flying Blue Account
Seven major US currencies move into Flying Blue at 1:1, which makes the program one of the easiest to fund from everyday spending. Even if first class stays out of reach, those same miles work well on Air France and KLM business class through the monthly Promo Rewards.
- American Express Membership Rewards (1:1, frequent transfer bonuses)
- Chase Ultimate Rewards (1:1)
- Citi ThankYou Rewards (1:1)
- Capital One Miles (1:1)
- Bilt Rewards (1:1, transfers on Rent Day)
- Air France KLM Visa Signature® Credit Card (earns Flying Blue miles directly)
Where La Première Is Available in the US
Air France now sells La Première to and from seven American cities. However, when San Francisco launched in August 2026, only four of them had the new cabin; the rest still used the previous one. The table below shows where each city stood at that date.
| City | La Première offered | New cabin (August 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| New York-JFK | Yes | Yes |
| Los Angeles | Yes | Yes |
| Miami | Yes | Yes |
| San Francisco | Yes | Yes |
| Atlanta | Yes | Not yet |
| Houston | Yes | Not yet |
| Washington | Yes | Not yet |
Air France plans to keep expanding the fitted fleet. The stated target is 19 Boeing 777-300ERs flying the new cabin to 13 destinations out of Paris-Charles de Gaulle, which means more American cities should move into the “new cabin” column over time.
Bottom Line
San Francisco just became one of the four best places in the country to try the newest first class cabin in the sky. The suite itself is impressive, with a separate bed, two large screens, and a curtain that actually closes. Still, the ground service at both ends is what separates this product from a very good business class seat.
For most US points travelers, the realistic path is a paid fare or a Flying Blue status run, not a quick transfer of Membership Rewards points. Meanwhile, the same miles buy excellent value in Air France business class, especially during a Promo Rewards month. Frequently Asked Questions about Air France La Première
Which San Francisco flight has the new La Première cabin?
The daily Boeing 777-300ER rotation carries it: AF084 leaves Paris-Charles de Gaulle at 10:20 a.m. and lands in San Francisco at 12:50 p.m., while AF083 leaves San Francisco at 3:05 p.m. and reaches Paris at 10:55 a.m. the next day. In summer, a second daily flight operates with an Airbus A350-900, which has no first class.
Can I book Air France La Première with miles?
Only if you hold Flying Blue Platinum or Ultimate status. Air France reserves first class award space for those two tiers, and it typically releases a single seat per flight. Members at Silver and Gold do not see the inventory at all, no matter how many miles sit in the account.
How many miles does La Première cost one way?
Flying Blue prices awards dynamically. Transatlantic first class generally starts around 200,000 to 250,000 miles one way plus a few hundred dollars in taxes and fees. Longer routings with connections often price much higher, so run the search before you transfer any points.
Can I use Amex or Chase points for La Première?
You can move Membership Rewards and Ultimate Rewards points into Flying Blue at 1:1, but the transfer does not grant access to first class award space. Without Platinum or Ultimate status, those miles are better spent on Air France and KLM business class.
Which US cities offer Air France La Première?
Seven: Atlanta, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York-JFK, San Francisco, and Washington. As of the San Francisco launch in August 2026, New York-JFK, Los Angeles, Miami, and San Francisco had the new cabin. The remaining three still used the previous first class cabin.
What does the La Première ground service include?
At San Francisco, you get dedicated check-in, immediate baggage handling, an escort through security, a private area inside the Air France lounge, and a personal escort to the aircraft. At Paris-Charles de Gaulle, the service adds a porter, a private vestibule for formalities, the La Première lounge with a full restaurant and spa, and a Porsche Cayenne transfer to the plane.
How many La Première suites are on the aircraft?
Four. Each suite spans five windows and combines an armchair with a facing chaise longue that folds out into a two-meter bed. A full-height mesh curtain closes the suite off from the aisle, and a wireless tablet controls the seat, lighting, and window shades.
