Wyndham Rewards' New Award Chart Is Live: Free Nights Now Cost 5,000 to 45,000 Points

Wyndham Rewards rebuilt its award chart on September 15, 2026, and the new pricing is already live. The program moved from three fixed redemption tiers to four: free nights now cost 5,000, 15,000, 30,000 or 45,000 points per bedroom per night. The floor drops from 7,500 points, and a new 45,000-point tier sits above what used to be the ceiling.
The change cuts both ways. According to Wyndham's own reward tier update page, free nights "now start at 5,000 points (instead of 7,500)", a 33% discount at the bottom of the chart. At the top, the most expensive properties go from 30,000 to 45,000 points per night, a 50% increase on exactly the stays most members save their points for.
What changed in the Wyndham Rewards award chart
Wyndham confirmed the four-tier structure took effect on September 15, 2026. The old chart carried three prices. The new one carries four, and the gap between the cheapest night and the most expensive one widens from 4x to 9x.
| Price point | Old chart (through September 14, 2026) | New chart (from September 15, 2026) | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cheapest free night | 7,500 points | 5,000 points | 33% cheaper |
| Second tier | 15,000 points | 15,000 points | Unchanged |
| Third tier | 30,000 points | 30,000 points | Unchanged |
| Most expensive free night | 30,000 points | 45,000 points | 50% more expensive |
Hotels are being redistributed across all four tiers
Wyndham describes the 45,000-point tier as reserved "for a small number of our most elevated hotels", and says the vast majority of its portfolio still sits in the 5,000, 15,000 and 30,000-point bands. The program is reshuffling properties across all four tiers at the same time it adds the fourth one. A hotel that cost 15,000 points in August can now sit at 5,000, stay at 15,000 or climb to 30,000.
So the headline numbers tell you very little about your own trip. Pull up the specific property on the specific dates before you decide whether this change helped you or cost you.
One detail catches people out every time. Wyndham prices awards per bedroom per night, not per room. Book a three-bedroom Vacasa rental sitting in the 15,000-point tier and you owe 45,000 points a night. The points calculator is worth a minute here before you commit.
Existing reservations keep the old price
- Price your own property, not the headline: hotels moved in both directions, so the tier you paid last year proves nothing about today.
- Check any booking made before September 15, 2026: it keeps its old rate, and Wyndham returns the points automatically if the hotel dropped to a cheaper tier.
- Confirm your Citi transfer ratio first: some ThankYou cards move at 1,000:1,000, others at 1,000:700.
- Transfer only against a confirmed booking: points that land in Wyndham Rewards cannot be moved back out.
Why the new ceiling matters more than the new floor
Wyndham has spent the past few years adding hundreds of luxury and all-inclusive properties, and those are the hotels the 45,000-point tier was built for. A 5,000-point Super 8 night is genuinely cheaper than it was before September 15, and on a road trip that adds up. But nobody banks a six-figure points balance to book Super 8s.
The redemption that justified holding a large Wyndham balance was the 30,000-point resort or all-inclusive night. That night now costs 45,000 points, which is the difference between six nights and four on the same balance.
How Americans stock up on Wyndham points
Wyndham points are unusually easy to accumulate in the United States, which is part of why the new ceiling stings. The earning and redemption rules in full live on our Wyndham Rewards program page.
Citi is the transfer route. ThankYou points move to Wyndham Rewards at 1,000:1,000 from the Citi Strata Elite, Citi Strata Premier, Citi Prestige and AT&T Access More cards. Holders of other Citi cards, including the Citi Double Cash and the Citi Custom Cash, transfer at a weaker 1,000:700, so confirm which ratio applies to your account before you move anything.
Barclays issues the co-branded Wyndham Rewards Earner cards, and Wyndham itself runs points sales several times a year at prices near 0.7 cents per point, which we track alongside the other current buy points and miles offers. Buying into a 45,000-point night during a bonus sale is a very different calculation from transferring ThankYou points into one.
Bottom Line
If you booked a Wyndham award with points before September 15, 2026, you keep the rate you booked, and Wyndham automatically returns the difference if your hotel moved to a cheaper tier. Every booking made since then prices on the new chart, and the tier that went up 50% is the one covering the hotels most worth redeeming at.
For everyone else, this chart is better at the bottom and worse at the top. Check your target property's tier before you transfer a single ThankYou point, because once those points land in Wyndham they do not come back.
When did the new Wyndham Rewards award chart take effect?
September 15, 2026. From that date, free nights price at 5,000, 15,000, 30,000 or 45,000 points per bedroom per night, replacing the previous three-tier chart of 7,500, 15,000 and 30,000 points.
How much does a Wyndham free night cost now?
There are four fixed prices: 5,000, 15,000, 30,000 and 45,000 points per bedroom per night. The cheapest night fell from 7,500 to 5,000 points, a 33% drop. The most expensive rose from 30,000 to 45,000 points, a 50% increase.
Did every Wyndham hotel get more expensive?
No. Wyndham redistributed hotels across all four tiers and says the vast majority still fall in the 5,000, 15,000 and 30,000-point bands. Some properties moved down a tier, many held steady, and a small number moved up to 45,000 points.
What happens to a Wyndham award booking I made before September 15, 2026?
It keeps the price you locked in. Wyndham honors the previous rate on reservations made before the change, and refunds the difference if the property now prices lower under the new chart.
Why does Wyndham charge points per bedroom instead of per room?
Wyndham includes Vacasa vacation rentals in its award program, and those properties have multiple bedrooms. A three-bedroom rental sitting in the 15,000-point tier costs 45,000 points per night, not 15,000.
How do Americans earn Wyndham Rewards points?
Three routes cover most members: spending on a Wyndham Rewards Earner card from Barclays, transferring Citi ThankYou points, or buying points during a sale. Citi transfers run 1,000:1,000 from the Strata Elite, Strata Premier, Prestige and AT&T Access More cards, and a weaker 1,000:700 from most other Citi cards.
Is 45,000 points still worth it for a top Wyndham property?
That depends on the cash rate. Milesopedia values Wyndham points at 0.7 cents each, so a 45,000-point night costs roughly $315 in points. The redemption holds up when the property sells for more than that, and fails when it sells for less.
Should I transfer Citi ThankYou points to Wyndham right now?
Only against a stay you have already priced and can confirm. Transfers into Wyndham Rewards are one-way, and with the top tier now at 45,000 points, a speculative transfer can leave you thousands of points short of the night you wanted.
