American Airlines Reopens LAX Flagship Dining: Who Gets In and How It Works

American Airlines is reopening Flagship Dining at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) in early November 2026, more than 6 years after the sit-down restaurant closed in March 2020. The room sits inside the Flagship Lounge in Terminal 4, and under the expanded Flagship Dining access rules, Flagship Business and Flagship Business Plus passengers on qualifying routes can now eat there.
That is a bigger audience than before. The space used to be called Flagship First Dining and was built for international first class travelers, a cabin American is phasing out. If you fly an eligible lie-flat route out of LAX, a full restaurant meal before departure is now part of your ticket.
LAX becomes the third airport with the updated Flagship Dining concept. Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) and Miami (MIA) opened their dining rooms to eligible Flagship Business passengers on September 15, 2026. American had targeted a late 2026 return for Los Angeles, and the room is now days away from reopening.
The name change is more than cosmetic. Dropping "First" reflects the new access policy: the room is no longer reserved for a handful of first class passengers, so expect more competition for tables.
| Airport | Location | Flagship Business access |
|---|---|---|
| Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) | Flagship Lounge | Since September 15, 2026 |
| Miami (MIA) | Flagship Lounge | Since September 15, 2026 |
| Los Angeles (LAX) | Flagship Lounge, Terminal 4, near gate 40 | Reopening in early November 2026 |
Flagship Dining is a separate room inside the Flagship Lounge in Terminal 4, near gate 40. The main Flagship Lounge stayed open during the closure: only the private dining room was shut.
The room works like a proper restaurant, not a buffet:
Access is tied to your ticket, not to your elite status alone. The core rule covers Flagship Business and Flagship Business Plus on qualifying long-haul international, transcontinental and Hawaii Flagship routes. At LAX, that includes Flagship flights to New York (JFK) and select Boston and Miami flights operated with lie-flat seats.
Holding AAdvantage elite status does not get you in by itself, even if it opens the main Flagship Lounge. If you are building toward status anyway, our guide to American Airlines elite status explains the tiers.
Flagship Dining runs on a space-available basis. Check in with the host team as soon as you enter the Flagship Lounge. If a table is free, you are seated right away. If the room is full, you join an electronic waitlist and get a notification when your table is ready.
Wait times depend on lounge demand and the flight schedule. With 59 seats and a wider pool of eligible passengers, evening departure banks are the most likely to see a queue.
American is serving a refreshed four-course menu built around seasonal ingredients and regional flavors from its hubs. Dishes shown for LAX include:
Diners also get a pairing of KHK Hillside Cabernet Sauvignon with K+M Extravirgin Chocolate and hazelnut dragées. K+M was co-founded by chef Thomas Keller and Italian olive oil producer Armando Manni. The KHK cabernet is poured in every Flagship Lounge, not only in the dining rooms.
If you hold a Flagship Business or Business Plus ticket on an eligible route out of LAX, arrive early enough to eat and go straight to the host stand when you reach the lounge. A domestic first class ticket will not get you in, so do not plan your meal around it.
