As you may be aware, Atmos Rewards is the rebranded program that’s come from the combining the Alaska Airlines’ Mileage Plan and Hawaiian Airlines’ HawaiianMiles.

Since the transition of the programs, we’ve seen consistent promotions in the 100-110% range, making this offer on par with earlier opportunities.

Now, with this in mind, let’s dig in to this deal to see if it’s helpful for your upcoming travel plans.

Promotion Details

The current Atmos Rewards points promotion runs until December 23, 2025, and offers targeted bonus rates ranging from up to 80% to up to 100%.

The percentage of bonus points you receive is tiered, with your bonus increasing the more points you purchase. For example, if you’re targeted with the 100% bonus, your bonus structure is as follows:

  • Buy 1,000–2,000 Atmos points: No bonus (3.5¢ per point)
  • Buy 3,000–9,000 Atmos points: 80% bonus (2.09¢ per point)
  • Buy 10,000–19,000 Atmos points: 90% bonus (1.98¢ per point)
  • Buy 20,000–100,000 Atmos points: 100% bonus (1.88¢ per point)

If you decide to purchase the maximum number of points (100,000 per transaction), and you have access to the 100% bonus promotion, it would cost you $3,762.50 for 200,000 Atmos Rewards points, which gives you an effective cost of 1.88¢ per point.

Keep in mind that elite Atmos members are allowed to buy an unlimited number of points each year, while non-elite members may only purchase a maximum of 150,000 points (before the bonus).

It’s also worth noting that that when buying Atmos Rewards points, you’ll be charged a 7.5% tax recovery fee on top of the base rate of 3.5¢ per point.

Which Credit Card Should You Use?

Atmos Rewards points purchases are process through Points.com rather than directly by Alaska Airlines or Hawaiian Airlines.

This means that these transactions will not code under the hotel or travel purchase category on your credit card, and thus are not eligible for elevated category earning rates.

Given this, the following are your best credit card options for buying Atmos points:

Is It Worth Buying Atmos Rewards Points?

The number of points you need when redeeming Atmos Rewards points for an award flight is based on the program’s multiple award charts.

Each chart is broken into distance bands and lists the “starting at” redemption prices for each range, though the actual cost of a redemption can fluctuate considerably with the program’s dynamic pricing.

If you’re booking an award flight that’s operated solely by Alaska Airlines or Hawaiian Airlines, your redemption cost is based the chart below.

When buying Atmos Rewards points makes sense

Buying Atmos Rewards points can make sense in a handful of scenarios:

  • Premium redemptions on partner airlines: If you can find a premium award ticket toward the “starting at” price-point with one of the program’s many excellent partner airlines (e.g., Cathay Pacific, Japan Airlines, and Qatar Airways), then buying points can help you access these award flights for a fraction of the cash cost
  • Using the program’s generous stopover policy: With the right itinerary, your purchased points can give you two destinations for the price of one with Atmos Rewards’ free stopover feature
  • Topping off a desired redemption: Buying points during a bonus can be very helpful if you’re just a few points shy of a sought-after redemption
  • Unique destinations and itineraries: Thanks again to the program’s long list of partner airlines, Atmos Rewards points can be used to access compelling destinations (e.g., the South Pacific islands via Fiji Airways)

When to skip the buy points promotion

  • Speculative purchases: It’s never advisable to purchase points speculatively since rewards programs can devalue their currency at any point
  • Domestic economy flights: These flights often have low enough cash fares that there is limited to no value in purchasing points for a redemption

Redemption Examples

Example 1 – Business class on Japan Airlines

You could redeem 60,000 Atmos Rewards points (plus $19 in taxes and fees) for a one-way business class flight from Seattle (SEA) to Tokyo (NRT) on Japan Airlines.

Purchasing the necessary points during the promotional event with the 100% bonus would cost $1,128.75 (for 30,000 points + 30,000 bonus points). Compare this to the cash fare cost of $4,500+, and you can see some considerable savings.

Example 2 – Long-haul business class with a free stopover

If you’re looking to really maximize your Atmos Rewards redemption and check off a unique destination at the same time, you could consider a redemption that includes a stopover in Fiji.

For example, you could redeem 75,000 points (plus $64 in taxes and fees) for a one-way business class flight from Los Angeles (LAX) to Auckland (AKL) with a free stopover in Fiji (NAN).

Purchasing 75,000 points during the 100% promotion costs $1,429.75, compared to the $4,800+ cash cost of this flight. As you can see, the current promotion offers the potential for substantial savings, while also letting you access unique and valuable itineraries.

Bottom Line

This current Atmos Rewards buy points promotion offers the chance to top up your account balance for as little as 1.88¢ per point. While this is a considerable discount relative to the regular price of 3.5¢, it still only makes sense to purchase points in specific scenarios, such as for premium cabins on partner airlines or to top off your balance for a desired redemption.

Also, remember that this promotion ends on December 23, 2025, so if you’re planning to buy some Atmos Rewards Points, make sure to confirm your purchase before then.
