Both cards have flexible points currencies with strong transfer partners, though there are some differences:

CardPoints Value and Redemptions
American Express Platinum Card21 airline and hotel transfer partners, including Delta SkyMiles, ANA Mileage Club and Air Canada Aeroplan. You can also redeem your points for flights through AmexTravel.com at a rate of 1 cent per point.
Capital One Venture X15+ transfer partners, including Air Canada Aeroplan, British Airways Executive Club and Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer. You can also redeem your points for travel purchases at 1 cent per mile.

Which one should you get?

Get the Amex Platinum if…Get the Capital One Venture X if…
You value luxury travel perks like lounge access, hotel status and premium credits. You want premium benefits at a more affordable annual fee.
You frequently book flights directly with airlines. You prefer straightforward 2X earning on everyday purchases.
You use benefits like CLEAR Plus, Uber Cash, Fine Hotels + Resorts and can track lots of credits. You want simple travel redemptions and a $300 annual travel credit that nearly cancels out the fee.

Bottom line

The Amex Platinum is the better choice for travelers who want premium luxury benefits, unmatched lounge access and elite hotel status. The Capital One Venture X, however, offers excellent value with a lower annual fee, practical credits and strong earning rates for everyday purchases. And that’s why the Venture X has a place in my wallet.

If you can justify the Platinum’s steep annual fee and maximize its perks, it’s unmatched for luxury. But for most travelers seeking flexibility and value, the Venture X is the clear winner.
